Tobias Steinhart Triumphs at the 29th Albstadt Bike Marathon
What a race, what a finish! Tobias Steinhart is the beaming winner of the 29th Assa Abloy Albstadt Bike Marathon – leaving none other than the reigning Masters European Champion, Markus Kaufmann, behind. In an impressive time of 2:47:26.5 hours, the 27-year-old from Rottweil secured victory on the 82-kilometer traditional course.
Steinhart's strong performance
In perfect cycling weather and with starting number 17, Steinhart started the race – and impressively pulled away in the final kilometers. He crossed the finish line at Mazmannplatz first. Despite a remarkable performance, Markus Kaufmann had to settle for second place – with a gap of a good two and a half minutes. Nevertheless, the veteran from Friedrichshafen was enthusiastic: "A fantastic race in front of an incredible crowd. Albstadt is my absolute favorite race."
Suspense until the last descent
The podium was completed by Marek Sülzle (2:49:54.5), who finished just behind Kaufmann in the final sprint. In the short distance, Maximilian Wagenstetter from RSG Zollern-Alb dominated the field with a time of 1:37:01 hours. In the final descent, he left his direct competitor Jonas Webelhuth behind – not least thanks to his knowledge of the course: "It certainly wasn't a disadvantage that I knew the course."
Dowe Simplon with a strong team performance
Team Dowe Simplon also put in a strong performance: four riders made it into the top ten. Lukas Koller, Uwe Hardter, Niklas Scherer, Levin Winz, Thomas Schwabenthan, Gabriel Sindlinger, and Florian Fink placed from fourth to tenth – an impressive testament to the team's strength.
