Direct Venting Membranes mark a technological advancement in waterproof functional clothing, as they immediately wick sweat and excess heat outwards. Unlike conventional membranes, which often use a protective polyurethane layer and only become effective at a certain internal humidity, this technology is based on an open-pore ePTFE structure.

At its core are billions of microscopic pores, which are large enough to allow water vapor molecules to escape, yet too small for liquid water droplets from the outside to enter. Since the membrane does without the blocking PU layer, it is permanently air permeable. This means that breathability starts immediately as soon as you move, instead of having to wait for moisture to build up.

For the wearer, this results in a significantly drier microclimate. The typical "clammy feeling" or "sauna effect" during high physical exertion is minimized, as moisture is directly vented. Well-known manufacturers such as eVent® Fabrics utilize this principle to create high-end outdoor clothing that allows for stable temperature regulation even under extreme conditions and prevents a sticky feeling on the skin.
