Kronstorf endurance athlete Lukas Kaufmann has won the prestigious HEAVY24 24-hour race in Chemnitz. In sweltering summer temperatures and difficult conditions, the father of two once again demonstrated his extraordinary endurance and mental strength.
On the 9.6-kilometer circuit around the Rabenstein reservoir in Chemnitz, with 142 meters of elevation gain per lap, Kaufmann completed a total of 58 laps. This meant he covered an impressive 556 kilometers and 8,236 meters of elevation within 24 hours, setting a new course record. With consistently strong performance throughout the entire race, he prevailed against a field of over 100 individual starters and secured the overall victory. Lukas was supported by his assistant Florian, while Julian recorded everything with a video camera.
"The high temperatures made the race particularly challenging for all participants. It was all the more important to find your own rhythm and to manage your energy correctly over the entire distance. I am very happy about this success," said Kaufmann after the race.
HEAVY24 is one of Germany's largest and most famous 24-hour mountain bike races. The mix of fast sections, technical passages, and numerous ascents demands maximum concentration, perfect race strategy, and mental resilience from the athletes around the clock.
For Kaufmann, his success in Chemnitz is another highlight of his current season and proof that endurance, consistency, and belief in one's own abilities enable extraordinary achievements.
The Upper Austrian also shares these experiences outside of sports. In his lectures, Lukas Kaufmann takes his audience on a journey through the world of ultracycling and, based on his personal experiences, shows how to master challenges, overcome setbacks, and make the seemingly impossible possible. His message: with the right attitude, clear goals, and perseverance, boundaries can be pushed – in sports as well as in professional and private life.
