Two KTM youngsters competed at the Bavarian Championships on the track in Augsburg. Both made it onto the podium.
The track in Augsburg was once again the venue for the Bavarian Championships. For the Omnium (the overall ranking) there was a Madison race, a tempo race and an elimination race. With Simon Potstada and Nico Wollenberg (both U17) two KTM youngsters were present. The Madison race was counted as the Bavarian championship.
In the Madison race, which is contested by two competitors together, the two did not start together, however, but with other riders, because according to the announcement only district teams were allowed. Simon dominated this competition with his partner (both from Upper Bavaria). It was much more difficult for Nico (Swabia), as he completed this discipline with a U15 rider, who is at a disadvantage compared to the U17 starters due to his gear ratio. Unfortunately, there was no other U17 rider from Swabia at the start. Nevertheless, the duo managed to fight their way to a strong third place.
In the speed race, only one point per lap is awarded to the leader. Simon put all his energy directly into the first classification and picked up one point. The others were secured by his Madison partner, who won the discipline in a commanding manner. Nico finished fourth.
Finally, Nico’s favorite discipline was the elimination race. He showed on this day how much this competition suits him: Nico stayed in it until the final lap and finished second in an exciting final. Simon had left too many grains in the speed race and dropped out early. As a result, Nico took second place in the overall standings and could be happy about the silver medal. In fourth place, Simon just missed the podium.
For Nico, it’s already off to the young riders’ trials for road/track 2023 in Frankfurt/Oder this weekend, while Simon will compete in the MTB finals in Wetter/Ruhr with the rest of the team.
